| The Workshop On Performance and Reliability |
|
|
Is an ongoing series of invitation-only, minimal-cost workshops for
experienced performance testers and related professionals. WOPR builds
skills in system performance and reliability and allows people who are
interested in these topics to network with their peers. The emphasis is
on mutual learning, sharing hands-on experiences and solving practical
problems. In these semi-annual meetings, subject matter experts and experienced working practitioners discuss pertinent state-of-the-art topics. WOPR has been organized by a small team of highly experienced practitioners in the field of performance and reliability testing.
Being Invited to a WOPR Conference:
We usually cannot accommodate everyone who would like to attend a WOPR conference. Despite the claims of skeptics, it probably is easier to get into WOPR than Harvard Medical or Law Schools, but only slightly. We limit the size of each WOPR
conference to between 15 and 20 seats based on the facility. The fee is
the minimum needed to cover expenses for the facility, refreshments,
etc., in other words as close to free as we can make it. Presentations
are typically from advanced-level, experienced practitioners, and it is
fair to say that some are world-class experts. So it is not surprising
that WOPR conferences tend to be
over-subscribed. Nevertheless, we strive to give every serious inquirer
a fair chance to attend and we encourage newcomers who have a passion
for the field to attend.
How to Improve Your Chances of Being Invited:
As we mention elsewhere, the best way is to offer to give a
presentation and submit a proposal through this web site.
Another
way is to provide a reference or two from experienced performance
testers who know your work. If we already know and respect your
references, so much the better. Don’t be intimidated, however, if you
do not have industry recognized references – most of the prior WOPR attendees didn’t when they attended their first conference, yet still had valuable experiences to share.
A third way is to engage us in dialog and inform us about what you have to offer and what you hope to gain by attending.
Finally, don’t give up if you are not invited. There is always next time,
and we reward persistence as evidence that you share our goals of
building a community of performance testing professionals and advancing
the state of the art.
