    WEDNESDAY MAY 27th WORKSHOPS

    WORKSHOP 1 - Assessment: Diagnose Before Prescribing (8AM to 12 Noon)

    This workshop focuses on techniques for quickly diagnosing performance problems.  The workshop introduces a methodology that considers the work, worker, and workplace in the process of analyzing performance problems.  The workshop is designed for people wanting to more quickly identify barriers to performance and be able to engage their clients in the process.  It helps clients focus on what matters, better understand what performance requires, and build sustainable solutions. Attendees will receive a copy of the Performance-Consultant’s Fieldbook, 2nd Ed and be entered in a drawing for another of Judy’s books.

    Objectives
    Attendees will gain a set of rules and tools they can apply when:

    • Asked to recommend a solution.
    • Wanting to determine if training is an appropriate solution.
    • Wanting to isolate variables that may be impeding performance.
    • Wanting stakeholders to understand what is required for performance and what are the most common causes of poor performance.

    Intended Audience
    Trainers and consultants (internal and external) who are frequently handed solutions by clients and want to make sure those solutions are the right ones.

    WORKSHOP 2 - Implementation: Sustaining Initiatives (1PM to 5PM)

    This workshop goes beyond the launch and roll out of an initiative.  It is about how to increase the odds new behaviors, technology, standards, values, and more produce the desired results because they are fully adopted by the organization.  Organizations invest millions of dollars on initiatives intended to improve productivity; unfortunately, after the initial launch there is little evidence of change.  The promise of improvement is not fulfilled.  A copy of the book Performance-Based Management is included and attendees will be included in a drawing for one of Judy’s other books.

    Objectives:
    Attendees with get tools and guidelines that increase the odds an initiative will fulfill its promise, specifically:

    • How to set up an oversight committee to manage the politics and bureaucracy of the organization.
    • How to measure the rate of adoption of new behaviors and interim results.
    • How to communicate progress to stakeholders.
    • How to anticipate and be prepared to overcome barriers like the loss of a sponsor.
    • How to shift ownership to the line organization.

    Attendees will have the opportunity to practice using a case study or they can apply the guidelines to their own project.

    Intended Audience
    This workshop is for trainers and consultants who:

    • Are responsible for creating training in support of new initiatives.
    • Design and develop initiatives at the request of senior management only to see them later abandoned by senior management.
    • Support other functions’ creation and launch of major initiatives.
    • Are tired of seeing dollars wasted because the line organization abdicates responsibility for adopting new behaviors, performance standards, technology, and the like.
