A Software Process Improvement Network (SPIN) is driven with a single, clear-cut goal in mind: change an organization in a way that improves that organization's ability to develop software. The term "technology" as it's being used in this presentation doesn't have to mean something like .NET or XML, it also means things like the SEI's CMMi and Agile Development methods. In our role as software process improvers, we tend to focus on those technologies by themselves and ignore the human perspective of change. Unfortunately, ignoring the human perspective can be the single greatest barrier to successful implementation of that change. This presentation addresses the human perspective of technological change and helps answer the following questions:

  • How can we help our customers adopt the innovations embodied in our products?
  • How can we help our peers adopt the innovations in the tools and processes that we use in building our products?
  • How can we improve our own ability to adopt new innovations?
